Proteomics can interrogate aqueous and vitreous humor, tears, retina, and other ocular compartments to identify biomarkers of inflammation, degeneration, vascular dysfunction, and treatment response. Tear-fluid profiling enables minimally invasive longitudinal sampling, whereas retinal and ocular tissue proteomics provides compartment-resolved insight into disease mechanisms and heterogeneity. Low-input workflows are essential for microliter-scale specimens and limited clinical material. Collectively, these approaches support biomarker discovery, disease staging, mechanistic studies, and monitoring of therapeutic response in ophthalmic research.
